Community Service

The service project for Reading's baseball teams is preparing and packaging meals for My Brother's Table (MBT) out of Lynn. Founded in 1982, MBT is the largest soup kitchen on the North Shore and has provided 6.7+ million hot, free meals and outreach to men, women, and children in need.

Reading Memorial High School Baseball Teams Step Up for My Brother’s Table

During April vacation, the Reading Memorial High School baseball teams once again traded bats for sandwich bags, coming together to serve the community through My Brother’s Table (MBT) in Lynn. Through their collective efforts, the teams prepared and packed over 100 lunches to support individuals and families facing food insecurity.

Founded in 1982, My Brother’s Table is the largest soup kitchen on the North Shore, providing millions of free meals and outreach services to men, women, and children in need. For the RMHS baseball players, the opportunity to volunteer offered a meaningful way to give back, and to bond off the field.

“It’s important to all of us to be part of something bigger than baseball,” said Ryan Marino, senior captain. “Serving together as a team reminds us that the bonds we build go beyond the field. Community service like this shows how much we can accomplish when we work together, and it’s a great reminder that being part of a team also means stepping up for others who need support.”

“Being able to work together outside of games and practices made this experience even more special,” said Sam Clark, junior captain. “It really showed the power of teamwork, not just in sports, but in making a real difference for people who need it. Knowing that every lunch we packed could help someone made all of us feel proud to be part of something bigger than ourselves.”

The community service event was coordinated by the Friends of Reading High School Baseball. Organizer Jenny LeBovidge emphasized how much the program values service. “We want our players to see that leadership means not just leading on the field, but also showing up for your community,” she said. “The teams’ energy and dedication this year were incredible to see.”

Coach David Blanchard also expressed pride in his players, highlighting the importance of fostering compassion and community-mindedness among student-athletes.

Through their efforts the Reading baseball teams once again demonstrated that teamwork, leadership, and heart go hand-in-hand—both on and off the field.
