Reading Memorial High School Baseball Teams Serve the Community at My Brother's Table
During this year's April vacation, the Reading Memorial High School baseball teams stepped up to the plate in a different way—by volunteering their time for My Brother's Table (MBT) in Lynn. This community service initiative was a remarkable opportunity for the teams to give back and make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need.
Founded in 1982, My Brother's Table has been a beacon of hope for many individuals and families in the North Shore area, providing more than 6.7 million hot, free meals and essential outreach services to men, women, and children facing food insecurity and homelessness.
The baseball teams from Reading Memorial High School eagerly participated in this initiative by preparing sandwiches and packing meals for distribution. Their efforts were part of a larger collective endeavor to support MBT's mission of addressing hunger and promoting dignity and respect for all community members.
Coach Blanchard expressed pride in his teams' dedication to serving others, highlighting the importance of instilling values of compassion and community engagement among student-athletes. "Our players understand the privilege of being able to play a sport they love, and they also understand the importance of giving back to those who may be facing challenges," said Coach David Blanchard.
The experience at My Brother's Table left a lasting impression on the players, fostering a sense of gratitude and empathy as they witnessed firsthand the impact of their actions on individuals and families in need. "It was a humbling experience to be able to contribute in such a meaningful way," remarked Will Moore, varsity captain of the baseball team.
"Being able to help out at My Brother's Table was not just about giving back to our community; it was about doing it together as a team. We bonded over making sandwiches and packing meals, knowing that our collective effort was making a difference in someone's life. It's a feeling of unity and purpose that goes beyond the baseball field, and it's something I'll always cherish about our team," added Matt Fichera co-varsity captain.
As the largest soup kitchen on the North Shore, My Brother's Table continues to rely on the generosity and support of volunteers and donors to fulfill its mission. The involvement of Reading Memorial High School's baseball teams serves as a testament to the power of teamwork and altruism in creating a brighter future for our communities.
